Alternatives For Better Presentations

We've been making presentations for years, and probably know the ins and outs of Microsoft Powerpoint. Let's move towards more engaging platforms to create our presentations on. The first would be the Sway, or Microsoft Sway. As stated by the title of Mark Kaelin's article, With Microsoft Sway, your next presentation doesn't have to suck. Microsoft Sway is stated to be a digital storytelling app or presentation software with multimedia features and tools. The app tries to connect with the younger generation, such as the multimedia savvy and the younger enterprise workforce, by offering them tools that they wouldn't see on regular Microsoft PowerPoint. Kaelin states that the app combines features found on other apps and software, such as PowerPoint, Movie Maker, and WordPress (Kaelin, 2015). With Sway, Microsoft wants the modern worker to communicate and collaborate effectively with other workers through digital technology.

Another tool to help make your presentations look and feel better would be Haiku Deck. Steve Anderson's blog post, titled Spiff Up Your Presentations with Haiku Deck, gives a simplified explanation as to what Haiku Deck is and what it does. Haiku Deck is a free app that can be used to make your presentations more visually appealing. This app is all about simplicity and fun. As stated by Anderson, you can type a word into a slide, and recommended photos will pop up that correlate to the matching word (Anderson, 2013). It is also possible to import your own images from other apps, such as Instagram, Facebook, and others. It is also possible to easily share your presentation by posting it on other social media networks.

A newer presentation tool that best uses the relationship between the presenter and their audience would be Decktopus. In Christopher McFadden's article, Decktopus Might Be the Only Presentation Tool You Will Ever Need, he states that out of all the newer alternatives to PowerPoint, Decktopus is the one that is truly worth the time to use. According to the article, Decktopus' user interface is built on the knowledge of experts in the industry to help create presentations (McFadden, 2020). Though you have to write the written content of the presentation, Decktopus automatically creates the design of the presentation. This software finds the correct font, photo size, color themes, etc., that matches and works best. All of Decktopus' templates are designed by professional designers, and it offers pre-prepared templates for any type of presentation, from school projects to pitch meetings.
